Treatments of Nasal Obstruction

Treating Deviated Septum, Enlarged Turbinates, Nasal Polyps, and Sinus Infection

If your ENT doctor has determined that your snoring is caused by anatomical nasal obstruction such as a deviated septum or enlarged turbinates, or non-anatomical nasal polyps or sinus disease, he or she can then treat the condition through either surgical or non-surgical procedures. Below are common treatments for nasal obstruction:

Deviated Septum (anatomical)

If a deviated septum is blocking air in either nostril, surgical repositioning can provide a correction.

Enlarged Turbinates (anatomical)

Medical treatment for enlarged turbinates includes antihistamines, decongestants as well as topical and systemic corticosteroids. Surgery may be indicated if a patient fails to respond to these medical treatments.

Nasal Polyps (non-anatomical)

Nasal polyps are treated surgically by removing them. Removal will improve breathing, however some polyps may grow back.

Sinus Disease or Sinusitis (non-anatomical)

Medical treatment includes antihistamines, decongestants as well as topical and systemic corticosteroids.
