Home Sleep Apnea Testing Process
The home sleep testing process includes a preliminary medical exam by Eos Sleep, formerly the Manhattan Snoring and Sleep Center’s board-certified sleep specialists. If sleep apnea is suspected — and the patient qualifies for a home sleep test — a monitoring device to perform the home sleep study and instructions for its use is then given to the patient for his or her overnight sleep test. When they return the home sleep study equipment the next day, results are then examined by our doctors for diagnosis and treatment.
When Home Sleep Testing is Right for You
A home sleep test is used only to diagnose sleep apnea; however, there are many other physical causes of snoring. Therefore, it is imperative to have a thorough physical exam for the snoring specialist to know if the home sleep test is right for you or if a different line of diagnosis and treatment is necessary. It is important to note that even if it is highly suspected that you have sleep apnea, the home sleep test may not be for you due to other physical factors that mandate a test in an overnight sleep lab.
Obstructive sleep apnea is the most common type of sleep apnea, as well as the most serious. It is caused by an obstructed upper airway in which soft tissue in the palate, throat or tongue blocks the flow of air as a person struggles to breathe. It is dangerous because sleep apnea symptoms can lead to severe health conditions. Since sleep apnea is so serious, it is vital that you receive expert medical care and guidance in your treatment.
The board-certified snoring specialists of Eos Sleep will provide you with the highest level of care and recommend the best diagnosis and treatment for you. Contact us today to schedule your appointment.
